Job Description
Telecommunications Project Engineer
 
The responsibilities for the post are as follows: -
  • To support the implementation of the telecommunications systems/network required to support re-signalling or signalling re-control project within the mainline rail industry.
  • To be able to act as Contractors Responsible Engineer (CRE) for the telecommunications discipline in accordance with the CDM Regulations.
  • To undertake the management of sub-contractors who will be providing the telecommunications systems for the project. This will include all elements, such as holding monthly progress meetings, undertaking the reviews of safety documentation, designs, etc.
  • To attend meeting with the client and represent not on the telecommunications discipline but also Invensys Rail.
  • To undertake site surveys and produce survey reports for submission to the client.
  • To take part in interdisciplinary checks (IDC) on behalf of the telecommunications discipline.
  • To be part of multidisciplinary team to undertake the GRIP 1- 4 process which will result in the production of the single option development documentation. These being System Reference Design, Testing Strategy, Designers Risk Log, etc.
  • Work as part of a bid team on tenders received from the client, including the production of Sub-Contract Specifications. Finally reviewing returned tenders and making recommendations.
  • Provide telecommunications technical support to the signalling design, installation and testing.
 
The applicant should preferably have the following: -
  • Personnel Track Safety (PTS)
  • Individual Working Alone (IWA) or Controller of Site Safety (COSS).
  • IRSE Telecommunications Project Engineers License.
  • A very good understanding of railway telecommunications systems and networks
  • Experience in chairing meetings with both sub-contractors and the client.
  • Network Rail FTN Transmission systems.
  • Be able to work alone and have the drive to produce documentation at short notice.
  • Be flexible with there working location as the post will require the person to work in all areas of the country as the telecommunications engineers are a national resource.
